A Fork In The Path

Michael McKibben was born in 1995 and spent the first 10 years of his life in Arizona. From there his family moved to Denver Colorado. In the early years of his life he spent time hiking the Grand Canyon, Rocky Mountain National park, and all over the western United States. His life at this time was intertwined between art and science.

At the age of 14 Michael first picked up a Nikon D60 and began his journey as a photographer. At the same time he was involved in science at school, home, and CU Boulder. While his love for art persisted, his focus became more on preparing for college. Thankfully his subject, biology, brought him to areas where nature molded her best creations.

Come late high school, Michael spent his free time hiking throughout Colorado, photographing and documenting his journey and the animals he saw. All of that would come to a close as he then set off to college in Tampa Florida as a marine biologist. While there he honed his skills in science, but began to miss the mountains to which his heart once resided. It was in the summer of his Junior year his heart was rekindled at Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory.

As the flame for photography reignited he found himself on a new journey beyond that of labs and fieldwork. Going now to move into graduate school, Michael hopes to not lose his passion for art. He wishes to bring the splendor of the places his research takes him to people who are unable to go there. In this he hopes that people will come to love our world and be filled with a desire to understand and protect it.
